Private lessons

  • 30 minutes: $41.50

Group lessons

  • 30 minutes: $20.00

Additional programmes

  • Adult Choir: $10 per session, charged per term (typically 10 weeks)
  • Band Project: $30 per term (open to all students)

All lessons are charged via direct debit on a weekly, fortnightly, or monthly basis. Scholarships may be available through the We Are Loud Charitable Trust.

Common questions.

How much do music lessons cost in West Auckland?

Private lessons are $41.50 for 30 minutes, $62.00 for 45 minutes and $83.00 for an hour. Group lessons are $20.00, $26.50 and $30.00 for the same lengths. The Band Project is $30 a term and adult choir is $10 a session. Everything is charged by direct debit — weekly, fortnightly or monthly. If cost is the thing standing in the way, the We Are Loud Charitable Trust offers scholarships.

Do we need our own instrument at home?

Yes — students need something to practise on at home, because that is where most of the progress between lessons happens. Drummers are the usual exception: ask your teacher about DIY practice setups. If getting hold of an instrument is difficult, talk to us. We would much rather find a way around it than lose you over it.

What age can my child start music lessons?

Our youngest group classes start at age 5 — Musical Exploration for ages 5 to 8, plus group piano, singing and ukulele for 5 to 7 year olds. Saturday Jams run from age 7, and the adult and teen choir is open from 14. For private lessons we take it case by case: get in touch and we will talk about whether now is the right time.

What happens if we miss a lesson?

Let us know at least 24 hours ahead — email your teacher and CC admin@weareloud.co.nz, or text 027 470 7042. For private lessons missed through illness, with more than 7 hours’ notice, we offer up to two makeup lessons per 12-week term. Lessons cancelled inside 24 hours do not carry a makeup, and makeups apply to private lessons rather than group ones.

What if my child learns differently, or finds new places hard?

Tell us before the first lesson and we will plan around it. Lessons are interest-led, so your child picks the music — there are no compulsory exams, and nobody is ever made to perform. You will have the same teacher in the same room each week, and they will adjust pace, volume and structure to suit. Our teachers work with students across a wide range of learning, sensory and physical differences. We would far rather you told us what helps than assumed we could not manage it.

Are your teachers police vetted?

Yes. Every member of our teaching team is police vetted, and they are trained musicians and educators with professional performing experience behind them. You can read their backgrounds on our team page.

Where are you based, and can we learn online instead?

Our studio is at 14 Waikumete Road, Glen Eden, in West Auckland — easy to reach from Titirangi, New Lynn, Henderson and the surrounding suburbs. We also teach online anywhere in New Zealand, at the same rates as in-studio private lessons.
