Piano questions, answered.
Do we need a real piano at home, or is a keyboard enough to start?
A full-size weighted keyboard is fine to begin with, and plenty of our students start that way. What matters most early on is that it has enough keys to play what your teacher sets and that it is somewhere your child can leave it set up. Talk to your teacher before you buy anything — they will tell you what will and will not hold you back.
Will my child learn to read music?
Yes, but not by starting there. We introduce theory and note reading gradually, through playing, on the same principle as learning to speak before learning to read and write. It arrives as something that explains the music they are already making rather than a barrier standing in front of it.
Can adults start piano from scratch?
Absolutely — we teach complete beginners of any age, and adults are a big part of our piano roll. You choose the songs, so lessons are built around the music you actually want to play rather than a graded syllabus you have to work through in order.
